Programme Note

Chutes was written for my good friend, Niamh Beddy. Whilst writing the piece, I was very conscious of gravity and its effect, and as a result, the piece describes a descent, as well as a pendulum like motion in the individual figure presented.

Composed by setting myself restrictions and limitations, each register has its own defining character, which is then morphed into the next, but always retaining hints of the past. This creates a sense of overlapping lines, folding and superimposing themselves upon each other, making the piece constantly ebb and flow.
